Facial Fillers

Many people wish that they could make some changes to their face, but do not want to go under the knife to do so. In recent years, the contouring makeup craze offered a way to enhance areas of the face but required a lot of time and skill for very temporary results. Hence, dermal fillers (also known as fillers) are a way to change or enhance facial features that provide a happy medium between the permanent surgery and daily makeup. More and more celebrities are now forgoing surgical procedures for non-invasive dermal fillers, which is sometimes called a “liquid facelift” or “mini facelift”.

Dermal fillers are well known in the treatment of wrinkles and for plumping lips and have become increasingly popular over the last several years. Their effects can also be used to sculpt and contour the face. Using fillers for sculpting and contouring is an amazing way to improve any problem areas of the face quickly, safely and without surgery. Recovery time is minimal and results can last 6 months or longer. Dermal fillers give a more enhanced and lasting result than contouring makeup yet at the same time also looks more natural. Fillers are used to create or restore volume, plump, hydrate, and smooth the skin.  They can also be used to improve the symmetry of the face.

For contouring the face, dermal fillers can be injected in several areas:

  • Lips- create more plump, youthful defined lips, and it can also help to improve lip symmetry
  • Forehead- smooth out lines and contour
  • Under eye area- improve eye bags and reduce dark circles, it can also add volume to the undereye area
  • Jawline- reduce jowls and create a more defined jawline
  • Neck- reduce neck bands and wrinkles
  • Temples- fill out sunken temples by adding volume to that area
  • Cheeks- make cheeks fuller and lift them by adding volume
  • Chin- sculpt and elongate chin for a more enhanced look
  • Nasolabial folds (also known as Laugh Lines or Smile Lines) – improve volume to reduce appearance of these wrinkles
  • Facial contour– lift and tighten this area to achieve a more V-shaped look

Delight Clinic only uses the best dermal fillers on the market that only contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural ingredient that is already in our skin, but reduces as we age.

It is a humectant, which means that it attracts and binds to water molecules and can hold over 1000 times its weight in water. When injected, the hyaluronic acid dermal filler delivers intense hydration under the skin, which increases its volume and creates a smoothing and plumping effect. Because hyaluronic acid is natural, it is very safe to use and there is little to no risk of allergic reaction.

The changes to the appearance of your face should be subtle, and most people will be unable to pinpoint the change—they will only notice that you look better! Once injected, it can also be dissolved right away by using hyaluronidase, if you are unhappy with any of your results.

Delight Clinic is the leading clinic for medical aesthetics that provides each client with professional, customized and effective treatments with FDA and Health approved resources.

With a complementary consultation at Delight Clinic, we assess your areas of concern and create a customized face sculpting treatment plan to fit your needs. Botox or Dysport may also be recommended to use in combination with dermal fillers for even better results.

Cheek Enhancement

Not all of us are born with chiselled cheekbones—and if you desire a more pronounced or contoured cheek area—dermal fillers are used to achieve this. By adding volume to the area, we can rebalance the face and create a light reflective, more angular or contoured look. In the case of aging, you may have noticed sagging or deflation through your mid face—resulting in less pronounced cheek bones. Dermal fillers will replace the fat lost to the aging process to give you’re a healthier, fuller appearance. Filler in the cheek area also helps to give a “lift” to the lower face; softening nasal labial folds (smile lines) and jowls.

Chin and Jawline Shaping

: If you have a weak or undefined jawline, dermal fillers are used to add volume or chin projection for a more flattering view from both a front and side angle. The added volume won’t make you look heavy through the jaw or chin—but rather creates a more chiselled, angular or defined jawline by building up the area for better overall facial proportions. This is a popular treatment for women who want a more sculpted or angular jawline—and for men who want a stronger profile.

Creating an oval-shaped face

Some patients have very strong masseter muscles (used for chewing), which gives them an overly wide jawline that can look masculine. By injecting botulinum toxin and other neuromodulators (we carry various well-known brands) into the muscle, doctor at Delight Clinic, Dr. Ashit Gupta is able to slim the jawline by relaxing the underlying muscle to create a more feminine, oval or heart-shaped face. Dermal filler may also be added to the chin area when projection is needed.

Jowls and Jawline Softening

With age two things occur to the jawline. Firstly: As the skin loses elasticity and skin begins to sag, the jawline appears soft and lacks definition and the corners of the mouth droop—forming wrinkles (marionette lines) that extend into the jawline creating jowls. Secondly: A loss of fat often causes two divots to form along the jawline known as pre-jowl sulcus, which further accentuates the appearance of jowls. Dermal fillers are used to fill in the lines, add volume where it has been lost, create a lifting effect, and camouflage the look of jowls with strategically placed filler. This procedure may also be combined with a skin tightening treatment.

Non-Surgical Nose job (Liquid Rhinoplasty)

One of our most dramatic treatments—a non-surgical nose job is used to make the nose appear slimmer, or to conceal a bump on the bridge of the nose. Paradoxically, by adding volume, we are able to make the nose look smaller and more even with carefully placed dermal fillers. This is a procedure that requires advanced anatomical knowledge. You are in good hands with our Delight Clinic doctors, who have all received advanced training in facial sculpting techniques to ensure a beautiful result without surgery.

Lip Enhancement

Lip injections are an art form in which the goal is to accentuate your lips while still maintaining overall balance. Whether your lips lend themselves to a keyhole pout or a balanced top and bottom depends upon your overall face shape and size. We listen to what you want to achieve and work with you to give you a result you are comfortable with—whether it is a mini lip, a natural lip, or something more dramatic. Lip plumping also smooths out dry lines and lip wrinkles for better lipstick application.

Dark Circles and Under-Eye Treatment

Do people assume you are tired even when you’ve clocked a full eight hours? Your under-eye hollows may be to blame. The skin below the eyes is very thin and one of the first areas to age. Along with wrinkles, some people are genetically predisposed to under-eye hollows.  This ‘sunken’ area creates shadows and dark circles. Dermal filler is used to volumize the area and create a smooth, light reflective surface that instantly refreshes your look. Dermal fillers also help conceal the underlying veins responsible for redness below the eyes.

Temple Volume Replacement

One of the most telling signs of aging is volume loss in the temples. These hollows or indentations on the outermost area of the face create a ‘peanut’ shape—wide forehead, narrow temples and narrow cheeks. Temple hollows are caused by fat pad atrophy, but loss of muscle, bone and soft tissue may worsen the effect. The volume loss begins in the mid 20’s but accelerates in the 40’s; progressively deepening over time.

The good news is that a dermal filler treatment restores volume to the area for a more youthful facial shape.

Facial Fillers – Frequently Asked Questions

How is alopecia areata diagnosed?

Alopecia areata is often diagnosed simply by the physician examining the scalp and obtaining a medical history. Often, your primary care provider or dermatologist will order blood work to assess you for other conditions that can contribute to alopecia areata, such as hormonal abnormalities or vitamin deficiencies. In rare circumstances where the diagnosis is unclear, your dermatologist may perform a scalp biopsy to determine the cause of your hair loss.

What areas of the body can alopecia areata affect?

Alopecia areata can affect any hair-bearing part of the body. It primarily affects the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, and body hair. People can also lose their nose hairs, which leaves them susceptible to dryness and subsequent increased runny nose and heightened sensitivity to environmental allergens and pollutants. Nasal rinses, lubricating gels and sprays can help with the dryness and runny nose, and antihistamine sprays can help mitigate the allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever. Some individuals that have lost their eyelashes report increased sensitivity and eye irritation. This can be relieved with lubricating eyedrops and the use of sunglasses while outside to prevent dust and other particles from getting into the eyes. Please speak to your primary care provider if you have concerns about alopecia areata and your health.

Is alopecia areata hereditary?

There may be a hereditary component to alopecia areata. However, some patients are the only people in their families to have the disease. Some people with alopecia areata will have children that do not develop the disease, and for some people the disease runs across several generations. Simply put, further research is required to fully determine the role of genetics in the disease susceptibility and progression.

I have alopecia universalis. Am I more susceptible to sun burns and skin cancer?

Sun protection is recommended for all individuals – hair or not. However, individuals with hair loss on the scalp are more susceptible to sunburns on the head and other harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Hair helps to block UV radiation from reaching the surface of our skin, thus, when an individual loses their hair, they also lose some of that protection. Even people with hair are encouraged to wear a hat or spray their scalp with sunscreen if they’re going to be out in the sun for long periods of time.

I have had alopecia for more than 5 years. Is there a chance my hair could grow back?

In general, alopecia areata is unpredictable. There is no way to tell when the hair will fall out, when it will grow back, how much will grow back, and how long the hair growth will last. Medical treatments such as corticosteroids and immunosuppressants are able to suppress the autoimmune response and give the body a better chance at growing and retaining hair. People with more advanced forms of alopecia areata, such as Totalis, Universalis, Ophiasis, etc., tend to be more resistant to meaningful hair growth, but this does not mean that they cannot regrow hair. This lack of understanding underpins the need to fund biomedical research for alopecia areata.

Does it hurt to lose your hair?

Typically, the hair loss caused by alopecia areata is not associated with any symptoms. However, some people have reported mild itching and tingling in the areas of hair loss.
